CursorHop
Auto Discovery

Find your computers automatically, no setup

Install CursorHop on your computers and they find each other automatically. No IP addresses, no configuration files, no network setup.

CursorHop devices automatically discovering each other on a local network via mDNS

Install, open, connect

Install CursorHop on each computer, open it, and your other machines appear in the device list automatically. Click to connect and you are ready to share your mouse and keyboard. The whole process takes about a second.

Zero configuration

You do not need to know your computer's IP address, set up a static IP, open router ports, or edit any configuration file. Install it and it works.

No IP addresses to type

Traditional tools require you to enter the server computer's address on each client. If your router hands out a new IP, the connection breaks and you have to reconfigure. CursorHop avoids that entirely - new IPs are handled automatically.

Works on Wi-Fi and Ethernet

Both computers on Wi-Fi, both on Ethernet, or one of each - it does not matter. As long as the computers are on the same local network (the default for any home or office setup), they will find each other.

Contrast with manual setup tools

Traditional alternatives ask you to designate one computer as a server and manually configure each client. If anything changes, you have to reconfigure. CursorHop treats all computers as peers.

Instant reconnection

If a computer disconnects (rebooted, went to sleep, or moved to a different room), CursorHop reconnects when it comes back online. Wake your laptop from sleep, bring it back to your desk, and the link is back before you reach for the mouse.

Discovery across plans

Auto discovery is available on all plans, including the 7-day trial. The trial includes full Pro features and discovers up to 2 computers. Pro Plus handles 5, and Max supports up to 10. The discovery mechanism is identical across all tiers - only the connection limit changes.

How it compares

CursorHop's auto-discovery finds peers with no manual setup. Compare this to Barrier (manual IP configuration) and Synergy (partial auto-discovery but often needs hostname entry).

Auto-discovery FAQ

How does auto-discovery work?

CursorHop announces itself on your local network and other CursorHop instances appear in your device list automatically - usually within a second. No IP addresses or configuration needed.

Do I need to enter an IP address?

No. CursorHop discovers computers dynamically. If your router assigns new IPs via DHCP, CursorHop re-discovers automatically. You never type an address, hostname, or port.

Does it work over Wi-Fi and Ethernet?

Yes. Auto-discovery works on any local network topology - both computers on Wi-Fi, both on Ethernet, or one of each. The only requirement is that they're on the same local network, which is the default on home and office setups.

Does CursorHop work over the internet or VPN?

No. CursorHop is LAN-only by design - this keeps latency low and input secure. If you need to connect machines on different networks, use a LAN-like VPN (Tailscale, ZeroTier) so they appear on the same local network.
